Peace on Earth, Goodwill toward all

Peace on Earth Bento Lunch | OneCraftyThing.com

2016 has been a hard year for many people. From division in politics in the US to cities around the world being attacked and senseless violence happening, it’s been weighing a bit hard on me this holiday season. Peace. I just want peace. So I tried to send some peace and love in the form of a school lunch. A bit silly? Perhaps, but it doesn’t hurt to send those good vibes into the universe.

In this lunch:

Main  Nutella sandwich in the shape of a dove because a little treat was needed for the holidays. Dove is holding a leaf bento pick and surrounded by roasted butter peanuts (in retrospect, I shouldn’t have put so many roasted nuts and will limit the treats later on — just thinking out loud!)
Sides Raspberries with green sprinkles and gala/granny smith apples cut into alternating slices. (I had the rest of the apples for breakfast that day 😉 )
Also included but not pictured Water and a granola bar.

Today, I used tools similar to these (please disable AdBlock to see what tools I used for this bento):

After a bit of a bento hiatus, I was ready to get back (right before vacation!) and I was trying to decide what cute cartoon character I was going to do… maybe the Good Dinosaur, maybe a Peanuts theme, or something else. After being uninspired by any cartoon character, I thought about what I wanted for my kiddo for Christmas. And what I really  wanted was peace on earth. No more mass shootings. No more violence toward any religious group. No more more hating refugees because they want a safe place to live. I just wanted peace. And so, today my wish is peace for everyone, anyone.

In today’s lunch:

Main  PB&J triple stack with a heart cut out and a dove flying in the middle. The leaf is a sprinkle.
Sides Green and red grapes with the word “PEACE” cut out in bread. Also, strawberries.
Also included but not pictured Yogurt and water

Today, I used:

Peace and Flower Power

I know we very recently did a peace and love bento but who doesn’t need more peace and love? So flower power was the theme today!

Main Peace sign Mac and cheese with some bento baran flowers (silicone flowers) for decoration.
Side Twisty bread and a carved apple
Also Included (not pictured) Melon and grape salad

Peace & Love Bento

peace

Today’s theme is peace and love. I’m not sure if it’s our culture that is so pervasive in peace symbol imagery in young girls’ clothing or that little girls just naturally are drawn to such a simple symbol (most likely the former) but my daughter LOVES peace signs. Has-them-on-shirts-pants-underwear type of love. So today’s zen moment is attributed to the theme of peace and love. I wish I had a peace sign cookie cutter so it would’ve come out perfectly, but instead I drew the pattern on the inside of the bread and cut the bread with the wrong side of the knife for some clean cuts. It’s not a perfect peace sign, but made all the better because it has sprinkles inside (what I’ve heard referred to as a “fairy” sandwich, but eh, I just call them sprinkle sandwiches).

Main PB&Jam on whole grain white, covered in rainbow non-pareils
Sides Blueberries and green grapes
Additional sides (not pictured) yogurt and an orange
