Goonies R Good Enough Lunch

Goonies Bento Lunch | OneCraftyThing.com

It’s Talk Like a A Pirate Day! And I LOVE pirates. And what is the best pirate movie ever made? THE GOONIES. This summer, my kiddo watched the Goonies and we’ve been singing Cyndi Lauper songs since then until… well, this morning. Today’s lunch, then, was a tribute to One Eyed Willie!

In today’s lunch:

Main  PB&J Sandwich. Eye patch is made with a half of an Airhead mini and non-pareils. Letters are cut out of cheddar cheese.
Sides Strawberries with “rich stuff” food picks and coconut clusters
Also included but not pictured Water and yogurt.

Them Bones Bento Lunch

Them Bones Bento Lunch | OneCraftyThing.com

I love October because that’s a time when all the spooky lunches come out. Today’s lunch? A boneyard. I’ve bought a treat last week at the store and have been waiting to use it! It’s the Cheetos 🙂 I don’t ever buy them but as a little treat, once in a while when they’re not bright orange, I’ll get them. This time, I found them in skeleton parts which I wish would’ve looked more like skeletons but eh, my kiddo loved them anyhow.

This is probably the third time we use the OmieBox. Overall impression: I like it, it’s a good box and allows for generous portions. Still bummed I can’t somehow attach a drink to it (besides a juice box) so that it can be self-contained but I found a  lunch bag in our stash that’s big enough for it and a water bottle.

In today’s lunch:

Main  A skull and bone shaped pair of PB&J sandwiches. I got the cutters at Williams Sonoma, but can’t find them there anymore 🙁
Sides Green grapes with skeleton food picks I picked up one year at Target, bone-shaped Cheetos, an apple carved into a skull, covered with food fresh to keep from browning

Skully Bento

Today’s bento is skull-themed, to get us in the mood for Halloween! This weekend we’ll be bringing down the Halloween box and decorating our front lawn. The kids love it and so do I… This little skull is getting it started 😉

I really like the way the head came out. I’m using sugar skull cutters I just got over the weekend and they are FABULOUSLY cool. I didn’t use the stamping part (yet) but it looks really detailed and interesting too (link below).  Instead of the stamping, I used smaller cutters to (an oval, a heart and a moon) to make the cuts in the sandwich to be like a skull. I think it worked out 🙂

The one thing I wish I could get past here is the fact that I’m packing very similar sides everyday. Have you ever bought a TON of fresh produce (like fruits and veggies) and need to use them up right away before they go bad? That is my desperate attempt with the grapes and kiwis! They just need to get used up (so sorry for so many repeats!)

Main PB&Jam
Sides Kiwi, grapes, trail mix under the two gummy bones.
Also included (not pictured) Yogurt
