Top 13 of 2013!

It’s the end of the year and some bento friends and I decided to do a bit of a roundup of our favorite lunches we made for the year! These are mine, counting down to my most favorite lunch I’ve made this year.

13- Hello Kitty

hellokitty

Hello Kitty is a huge favorite around here. We love her! It’s the second time I’ve made her but she was even more fun with a special cutter to make her look exactly so.

12- At the Bottom of the Ocean

deepsea

I just had a lot of fun with this one. I especially was in love with the squid… it made me happy to no end. The fact that the cheese made a decent eel and that the fish looked like they were all in a reef… well, I can’t tell you how giddy that made me, lol.

11- Super Mario Brothers

mario

This one was so much fun to make. It reminded me of my childhood playing Nintendo all day long. And I got to use the double cherry pick. Score!

10- At the Dog Park

puppybones

One of the main reason this was one of my favorites is because it isn’t a sandwich! The meatloaf puppy was a little bit of a challenge but being able to use romanesco was the best part of this, I think!

9- Ferb

ferb

I can’t tell you how much a love a guy with green hair and a British accent. I also love that the creators of Phineas and Ferb purposefully made them easy to draw with geometric figures so that children could draw them. Thankfully, that makes them easy to make into some fine-looking bentos!

8- Phineas and Perry

phineas

Phineas is my favorite of the two, though. And of course he has his buddy, Perry!

7- Severed Body Parts

bodyparts

This one was so much fun to make. I think it was my favorite just because it was so creepy and gross and my kiddo LOVED that it was disgusting/yummy.

6- The Chilly Owl

owl

My chilly little owl was one of my favorites because she just turned out so adorable with that tiny little hat, and she was actually two sandwiches put together. This is good, as my kiddo has been asking for more sandwich in her lunch lately. So she’s also my favorite because she’s a lot bigger that she looks.

5- Mickey

mickey

Mickey, ’cause who doesn’t love Mickey? I was so smitten with him and how many things I got to use for him that it made me love him all the more.

4- Merida

Merida was one of my favorites because I like her as a princess (for once, I actually like a Disney Princess!) She was great and my kiddo loves her (and carrots!) so one day, it was Merida.

3 – Dia de los Muertos

diadelosmuertos

I absolutely love the way this bento came out, mainly because it was inspired by a movie short and it had to do with a little girl seeing her mom as a skeleton (in a nice way! really!) on Dia de los Muertos. It was a beautiful story and it had blue roses and I finally figured out what to do with the flowers I had bought in Italy for bento.

2- Halloweenies

hop

My favorite holiday is Halloween and I love the way this lunch came out. It came together (concept, gathering of supplies, etc.) over a few days and so I was really happy to see it come together. And the upside down bats? Genius (I borrowed the idea from another awesome bento blogger, Organized Bites!)

1- Gung Hay Fat Choy

chinese_dragon

This parade dragon has to be my number one most favorite one because he was a labor of love. He took a really long time but it was so much fun making him that I just kept going for more and more detail. I adore details and I adore this guy.

All gorgeous and delicious lunches, but the owl is my favorite. What can I say? I’m a sucker for them! Looking forward to what the new year brings!
